IHRA Diplomas

One of the primary purposes of the International Hand Reading Association is to  promote hand analysis as respectable and reputable art, to lift it up out of the prevailing view of hand reading as a 'parlour game' or a divinatory and predictive practice.  Hand reading is not a body of knowledge that requires 'psychic skills' or the ability to 'read auras'.  It is an observational study rooted in empiric and verifiable human experience.  To that end, we endeavor to show that anyone with a modicum of intelligence and a concerted application of effort can learn to read the features of the hands and discern the significance and meaning of these patterns within their own life and in the lives of others.

Chirology is a serious study that requires hard work. However, it is also a lot of fun and it is endlessly interesting! We have created a series of courses which will guide you from beginner to professional handreader over the course of about 120 hours tuition.  Most courses run in modular form and it usually takes between 1-2 years to study and assimilate the course material.  We want you to become a professional hand reader that is able to give hand reading consultations of a very high quality so as to be able to assist people at all levels of human experience, whether that be emotional, psychological, vocational or spiritual.

Currently all courses are taught in the English language and a good standard of English comprehension will be needed to successfully participate. The best place to begin is with a beginner's course:

Handreading Discovery !  - Introductory Courses  (IHRA Diploma Level One)

An introductory course can last between six or twenty weeks, depending on the tutor and how they choose to present the material.  This course gives an overview of the features of the hands such as handshapes, fingers, thumbs, fingerprints and lines so there is a basic working comprehension of the general significance of each of these different parts to the hand.  Emphasis is primarily on assessing the hand from the point of view of personal psychology.  Many people do this course because they are curious about what their hands have to say about them - and they learn a great deal about themselves in the process!  Whilst this course can be taken for fun and personal interest, to pass this course and receive the IHRA L1 Diploma, a written assessment of a previously unseen handprint needs to be completed.

Current Tutors:  Felicity Booth, Johnny Fincham, Christopher Jones

Handreading Development - Foundation Course (IHRA Diploma Level Two)

For those whose curiosity has been piqued by the introductory course, the handreading development course goes into the features of the hands in much more detail, especially with regard to the fingerprints and palmar dermatoglyphics and the line formations over about 60 hours of tuition.  The emphasis in this course is on the Five Elements approach to hand analysis and those who have not studied the five element approach may need to do a conversion course beforehand.  The course also requires attendance at a minimum of six handreading practice sessions. A practical module on the ethical considerations of running a chirological consultancy completes the course so as to prepare you for actually reading hands.   To pass this course and receive the IHRA L2 Diploma, a detailed and accurate written assessment of around 2,000+ words on a previously unseen handprint needs to be completed.

Current Tutors:  Felicity Booth, Christopher Jones

Handreading Diploma - Professional Course (IHRA Diploma Level Three)

This course is for people who want to be able to practice as a professional hand analyst and chirological consultant.  Successfully completing the IHRA L1 and L2 Diplomas are pre-requisites for enrolling in this course.

This course encompasses each of the Five Levels of Analysis and includes around 60hrs of tuition and practical hand reading classes covering advanced chirological themes including:

  • Vocational Assessment from the Hand- how to assess the best career options for your client

  • Health Assessment from the Hand - the medical and health indications of the nails, dermatoglyphics and lines of the hands

  • Emotional and Relationship Assessment from the Hand - how to assess pairs of hands for relationship compatibility; the assessment of sexual trauma and sexual deviancy as seen in the hand

  • Psychological Assessment, Childhood Trauma and the Hand - how to identify the effects of childhood issues, parenting, trauma and sexual abuse as this can be seen in the hands

  • Spiritual Analysis - an assessment of patterns of the hand as they reflect our spiritual awareness and development

To pass the diploma, a written assessment of around 3,000 - 5,000 words needs to be prepared from a previously unseen set of handprints accurately describing the person in detail at an emotional, psychological and vocational level.
